After the 2008 season, I really expected the Carolina Panthers to acquire then-Cleveland quarterback, Derek Anderson.
Four years later it looks like it has finally happened.
“He’s familiar with the system,” Hurney said. “But we just want to bring him in and get to know him a little bit and we’ll go from there.”
According to many sources, Derek Anderson has flown out all the way to Charlotte, N.C. to meet with the team, and I have a feeling if he flew all that way, he knew they'd get a deal done.
Anderson, 28, has played in the NFL for seven seasons, playing for three teams: Baltimore, Cleveland and Arizona. The quarterback was cut last week by his latest team, Arizona, after just one season with the team where he threw seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions in nine starts.
In 2007, Derek Anderson went to a Pro Bowl, as he (and along with WR Braylon Edwards) had breakout seasons, where Anderson threw 29 touchdowns.
Panthers' head coach Ron Rivera had said many times during the lockout that he was going to sign a veteran quarterback to mentor Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen. Anderson should be a good fit, because he had his best year in 2007 under new Panthers' offensive coordinator, Rob Chudzinski.
