NFL Picks Week 1: 5 Teams Guaranteed To Win on Opening Weekend

There is nothing like opening weekend of the 2011 NFL season to spark excitement in the hearts of football fans all over the world.

That’s right folks, it’s here, but now it’s time to start getting down to business.

This should be common sense, but it needs to be repeated:

The wins and losses mean something now. In fact, the wins and losses mean everything now!

You could be the cutest team in the preseason and have gone 4-0, but the fact of the matter is that nobody cares about that. The only thing that matters is whether or not you can get it done or not. Nothing else matters, and that’s what makes the NFL so incredible.

With all that in mind, here are five teams that are guaranteed to get it done with a win on opening weekend:

New Orleans Saints @ Green Bay Packers:

The Packers are the obvious choice to win this game. Not only are they at home, but they are just a far better team than the Saints, and that’s saying a lot. The Packers offense is arguably unstoppable, and the defense should be able to bother Drew Brees enough to get a win.

Detroit Lions @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

While these are two evenly-matched teams, I think Detroit is coming into the game with far too much hype, and I don’t think they will live up to it. The Buccaneers are ready to take that next step into the playoffs, but Detroit is still about a year away. I think this game will reflect that sentiment.

Atlanta Falcons @ Chicago Bears

The Falcons are the real deal this year, and I think their offense will be one of the best in the league. They’ll have a chance to step up against a Bears team filled with many unknowns. I think they will end up blowing out the Bears.

Carolina Panthers @ Arizona Cardinals

I do think the Cardinals are going to be a pretty good team in 2011, but I think Cam Newton and the Panthers have an early upset in them. Newton hasn’t been incredible, but he showed the ability to make plays in the preseason. He knows how to step up big in big moments, and I think this will be his coming out party.

Dallas Cowboys @ New York Jets

Simply put, the Dallas Cowboys aren’t ready to be a winning team yet, especially on defense. The Jets on the other-hand are solid on both ends of the field, as well as special teams. The Jets are at home and I think they will ride that momentum to a pretty lopsided win.
