Cleveland State head coach Gary Waters already has a nickname for his highly-touted three-player recruiting class that signed on Wednesday.
"I'm calling them the young guns," Waters said after CSU's 88-58 exhibition win over John Carroll Wednesday night at the Wolstein Center.
Signing with the Vikings were Bryn Forbes (Lansing, Mich.), Junior Lomomba (Montreal, Ontario) and Malik London (Chillicothe, Ohio).
"We are excited about this class. My goal in what I feel good about is adding these two classes together and we will be pretty dynamic," said Waters, referring to this year's freshman class and the 2012 class that just signed.
Forbes, a 6-3 shooting guard from Lansing Sexton High School, averaged 13.6 points per game last season as a junior and helped the Big Red win the Class B state title.
He scored 29 points in a state semifinal win over Detroit Country Day last season and dropped 34 points in an AAU game this summer.
A 2-star recruit according to ESPN.com and Rivals.com, Forbes is ranked the 80th-best shooting guard in the country by ESPN.
Forbes chose the Vikings over offers from Oakland (Mich.), Eastern Michigan, Holy Cross and Hofstra, and also had a preferred walk-on offer from Michigan State.
"Bryn Forbes is probably one of the better shooters that we have had in this program," said Waters. "He can really shoot the basketball."
The marquee player in the recruiting class is Lomomba, a 6'4" forward from Madison Memorial High School (Wis.) who averaged 17 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a junior, leading the Spartans to a state title.
Lomomba chose the Vikings over offers from Washington State, Cincinnati, New Mexico State and UCLA.
A 3-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals and Scout.com, Lomomba is ranked the 38th small forward in the country by ESPN.com.
Lomomba has two years of experience on the Canadian junior national team.
"Junior Lomomba is a blessing. He's a high-major player," said Waters. "He's one of those type of kids that will come in and be on the floor immediately. That's how good he is. He can play the 1, 2, or 3. He's athletic, can shoot the ball and can pass the ball."
London is a 6'8" forward who averaged 11 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots as a junior.
A 2-star recruit by Rivals, Scout and ESPN, London is ranked the 67th power forward in the country by ESPN.
London also received interest from Cincinnati, Xavier, Dayton, Nevada, Ball State, Clemson, James Madison, Texas-El Paso, Akron, Bowling Green and DePaul.
"He's probably the best shot blocker that we ever had here," said Waters. "Much better than (George Tandy)."
In addition to the three commits, Waters said they had two other verbals who will sign during the late signing period.
Waters couldn't talk about the two other verbals because of NCAA rules, but according to various recruiting websites, the two other verbals are Darnell Harris (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Gary Akbar (Dayton, Ohio).
Harris, a 3-star recruit by Rivals, Scout and ESPN, is a 6'8" power forward from La Jolla Prep (Calif.) who can really shoot the ball.
Akbar is a 6'5" post from Dayton Dunbar High School, the same school that has produced the Vikings' Norris Cole and Aaron Pogue.
