Mike Dunleavy to Milwaukee Bucks: Breaking Down the 2011 Free Agent Signing

Mike Dunleavy Jr. signed a multi-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.

This was a minor deal in the NBA landscape. Dunleavy certainly doesn’t lift the Bucks to legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference, but he does give them added depth.

He is a guy that has the ability to light it up from beyond the arc. Dunleavy has made over 100 three pointers in his 9-year career.

Throughout his NBA career, Dunleavy hasn’t been dominant but he has been productive. He has averaged 12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in his career.

Does his production equal one that should be from a No. 3 overall draft pick? Probably not. But you can definitely see how his size (6’9”) would allow him the opportunity to be drafted high in the NBA Draft. He can also do a plethora of things on the basketball court, too.

Milwaukee was 35-47 in 2010-11. They have some talented players like Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut, but they are only looking to contend for a playoff berth.

Maybe with the addition of Dunleavy they have a realistic shot of making the postseason in the horribly weak back-end of the Eastern Conference.

Dunleavy’s deal was one that will probably go unnoticed in the landscape of the National Basketball Association. But, he does give the Bucks an added three-point shooter and veteran.

He won’t lead the Bucks to postseason glory but he certainly allows them another useful body against some of the best in the conference.
