2011 NBA Mock Draft Sees Bulls Close First Round With Soft-Shooting Big Man
Having already added backcourt scoring in Nolan Smith, the Bulls turn to the frontcourt. With Joakim Noah and Omer Asik inconsistent as offensive threats, the club looks to add a more reliable scorer to its post rotation.
Wisconsin?s Jon Leuer is a deadly three-point shooter at 6?10?, and was able to play effectively in the paint in the physical Big Ten. He?ll need to bulk up some to survive under NBA baskets, but he?s got the skill set to succeed.
Leuer is only an average defender, and his lack of strength and athleticism makes him vulnerable in that area. He isn?t short on effort, though, and coach Tom Thibodeau has shown an ability to teach defense even to players who have struggled elsewhere (see Kyle Korver).
While Leuer?s biggest value to the Bulls will be in spacing the floor, he?ll also give them another energetic rebounder in a frontcourt loaded with them. Having an extra body off the bench (especially with Kurt Thomas up for free agency) isn?t a bad thing for Chicago, either.
