MLB Rumors: SF Giants Guaranteed to Add Big Bat by Trade Deadline

The MLB rumors around the San Francisco Giants are all suggesting the same thing?they will be spending money for an offensive player before the trade deadline.

They currently sport a fantastic rotation that is only bested by the once in a decade Philadelphia Phillies fearsome foursome.

The bullpen is just as solid. If the Giants have a two-run lead in the seventh inning or later?start the buses.

But it?s the offense that holds them back.

As Fox Sports.com columnist Jon Paul Morosi explains, the Giants have to fill the holes that have been glaring since the beginning of the year:

While it?s true that the Giants have a significant amount of debt to retire on AT&T Park, they have a strong desire to sustain momentum by keeping a championship-caliber product on the field. And with the absence of three big bats that helped them win the World Series this year ? Buster Posey (injured), Juan Uribe (departed as free agent), Pat Burrell (diminished production and role) ? the Giants recognize the need for another impact hitter.

The top name associated with the Giants right now is Carlos Beltran of the New York Mets.

He is still owed around $8M on his contract and the Giants are willing to swallow it. They sure could use a guy that goes into the second half hitting .285 with 13 homers and 58 RBI.

Considering his track record in the postseason, attempting to acquire him is a no-brainer. The only question is how much they are willing to give up to ensure they get their man.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez is also a potential trade target to the bay. His task would be to help ease the burden that has been placed on Eli Whiteside?s shoulders in the aftermath of the Buster Posey injury. Hernandez is hitting .322 with 10 homers, 26 ribbies and a .377 OBP in part time duty.

The Giants would be the favorites to repeat if they can acquire both of them. If they can only secure Beltran, they still would have a legit shot as well.

Stay tuned as it appears the Giants and their 44 home sellouts to begin the season are more than willing to shell out the dough to ensure the winning and fans keep on coming.
