BCS Rankings: Why Clemson Has a Beef with Boise State

The 2011 BCS Rankings are still very young, but there's already some questions to the rankings near the very top.

There's no question that LSU and Alabama deserve the top two spots at the moment, but Boise State being ahead of Clemson is an absolute crime.

Clemson currently has three wins over teams that were ranked at the time of their win, including going into Blacksburg and taking down Virginia Tech by 20 points.

That's the only loss the Hokies have suffered all season.

Clemson's wins over ranked opponents aren't the only wins you should pay attention to. They've also got a solid victory over North Carolina where they scored nearly 60 points.

Now granted their defense is what will ultimately keep them from probably contending for a national championship, but to put them behind Boise State who's only decent victory came over a Georgia team that is clearly not what we originally thought they were is puzzling.

After the Georgia win, the most impressive victory by far is a road win over 5-3 Toledo. The wins get pretty soft after that.

Now Boise State is ahead of Clemson by a very slim margin, and the majority of the computer rankings actually like Clemson more than they do Boise State.

The human polls on the other hand all favor Boise State.

If Clemson keeps winning then you have to think they'll eventually leap frog an undefeated Boise State, but unfortunately for Clemson they probably will eventually slip up.

The Tigers still have to deal with South Carolina, Georgia Tech and a surprising Wake Forest.

Usually it's Boise State that has a beef with the BCS rankings, but this season they're getting ranked higher than they really should be.

There are numerous teams in the country that would be undefeated like Boise State if they played Boise State's schedule.

Now there may not be that big of a difference between being 5th in the standings or being 4th at this point, but it could end up meaning a trip to the BCS National Championship if Oklahoma State ends up losing, and that's very possible at this point.

With Oklahoma already losing to Texas Tech, there's very little standing in the way for Clemson except for Boise State.

If Oklahoma State were to drop out of the picture then that would most likely leave the winner of the Alabama-LSU game standing alone with Boise State who will almost certainly run the table.

That's why Boise State being ahead of Clemson at this point could potentially be very huge in the end.

Clemson already should be ahead of Boise State with their current resume, but if they run the table then it will be the crime of the century in college football if they're kept out because of Boise State.
