Andrew Luck vs. Matt Flynn: Which QB Gives Team Best Chance to Win in 2012?

After he lit up the Detroit Lions in Week 17, everyone is buzzing about Matt Flynn's future. The Green Bay Packers' backup was on point against the Lions, completing 31-of-44 passes for 480 yards, with six touchdowns and one interception.

The 26-year-old Flynn has played in 34 games in his four-year career. In that time, he has completed 82-of-132 passes (62.1 percent) for 1,015 yards, with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. His career quarterback rating is 92.8.

Flynn will be a free agent this offseason and will be looking for a shot to start somewhere else. He is likely to be the top veteran passer available. So, with college football's golden boy Andrew Luck set to be the top rookie quarterback next season, which guy gives a team the best shot to win games in 2012?

On this one, I'm going to have to go with Luck because of all the intangibles he brings to the table. He has all the tools you want in a franchise quarterback, plus he possesses this ability to escape the pocket and make plays with his legs. Flynn is more of a stationary, pocket quarterback, which limits his upside a bit.

Last year, Kevin Kolb was the hot backup who was set to move on to become a starter. That didn't go so well for him and the Arizona Cardinals this year. Kolb's 2011 gives me pause about Flynn in 2012. I think he has the ability to be a solid NFL quarterback, but it's a huge change from being a backup to becoming a starter in the league.

Luck has been preparing to run an NFL team for the past two seasons, and I personally think he'll step in and be successful right away like Matt Ryan was for the Atlanta Falcons. Some guys are just built to handle the rigors of being the main guy at this level.

If I had to choose, I'd take Luck because his upside is so much higher. As for 2012, both guys could help a team, but I think Luck has a chance to be special immediately.
