John Heilemann on Morning Joe: The Dysfunctional Relationship of Dick Cheney and Colin Powell


Our own John Heilemann joined the Morning Joe crew today to discuss the tumultuous relationship between Dick Cheney and Colin Powell, which preceded and continued throughout the Bush administration — as revealed in Cheney's new memoir — and certainly made some cabinet meetings just awkward. Heilemann notes that Cheney's influence led the group to tune out Powell when it came to the topic of invading Iraq, saying "[Bush] didn't ask Powell because he didn't want to hear what Powell had to say, and Powell didn't speak up because he didn't think it would do any good." The former Secretary of State's reaction to the memoir has been "less than explosive", but if you believe those Taiwanese animations, he's headed to the house of Cheney with a baseball bat right about now.
