Justin Bieber has recorded a new advert for a product designed to stop teens texting while driving, and is giving you the chance to win one of his tour jackets.
The free Drive Safe application for Android and Blackberry phones prevents users from texting while traveling at more than 10 mph.
“It’s tempting to text and drive, but maybe it’s time to take responsibility for our actions,” says the teen singer. “If someone texts you while you’re driving, let them wait. You’re more important than a text could ever be.”
According to the United States Department of Transportation, more than 1,000 people die each year within the U.S. due to texting while driving. Working with PhoneGuard on this important initiative reinforces Justin’s long-standing commitment to increasing public awareness of texting while driving, while at the same time providing financial support for charities such as the Remember Alex Brown Foundation.
“As a 17-year-old driver, I am aware of the countless distractions that we teenagers face on the road, and texting is one that is preventable,” said Justin. “There are too many young people, like Alex Brown, whom we’ve lost because of texting while driving, and it is my hope that, through this partnership with PhoneGuard, we will raise awareness of this issue and create safer conditions for everyone on the road.”
PhoneGuard’s revolutionary Drive Safe anti-texting while driving software application suite disables the texting, emailing and keyboard functions of a mobile phone in a vehicle that is in motion.
Bieber was inspired to support the campaign for texting responsibly after meeting the family of a young girl killed while texting and driving. Alex Brown died in 2009, and Bieber met her family during an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition earlier this year. He has been a supporter of their Remember Alex Brown Foundation ever since.
