NFL Draft 2011: Will the New York Giants Draft a Quarterback in the Late Rounds?

This article is being produced out of pure frustration of being questioned that the Giants would only take a quarterback if hell was freezing over.

Am I missing something? Isn't quarterback the most important position on the field, and in turn, isn't the backup quarterback one of the most important backup positions?

The Giants are set for the 2011 season in terms of this position; Sage Rosenfels has proven to be a fine backup in the league, and when he was on the Texans last season, it looked like he could still sling it around.

However, Rosenfels is 33 and definitely won't be with the Giants much longer. Not to mention the fact that he might still believe he can be a starter someone and could go the route of David Carr and sign somewhere else in the very near future.

With Rhett Bomar out the door and Jim Sorgi not under contract, the Giants have no third option at backup quarterback. Ryan Perrilloux could be that person, but I'm not willing to accept that; he wasn't very successful in college.

This class of quarterbacks is deep, and some very talented players could end up going in the late rounds, such as Tyrod Taylor, Ricky Stanzi and Greg McElroy.

None of these players look like franchise changers, but they could serve a purpose for an NFL team looking for a reliable backup.

Oh, and need I remind you naysayers that the Giants have drafted a quarterback twice now during the Eli Manning era, including the 2008 draft?

That same 2008 draft took place approximately two months after Manning won Super Bowl XLII MVP. If that isn't proof that the Giants are always looking to secure themselves a solid backup quarterback, I'm not sure what is.

They have missed on the previous two who are no longer on the team, and it is definitely not out of the question to think they could draft a QB in the 2011 draft.

Obviously I could be wrong, but to completely dismiss the idea is ludicrous.
